Rep. Thomas Massie pushes for release of Epstein files

U.S. Representative Thomas Massie has launched a second discharge petition to compel the Department of Justice to release remaining files related to Jeffrey Epstein. The move aims to advance the Epstein Files Transparency Act II, a legislative proposal designed to expand access to records for survivors, state attorneys general, and authorized prosecutors.

During a speech on the House floor, Massie named 14 individuals whom he described as “coconspirators” in Epstein’s sex-trafficking network, suggesting they should be investigated and prosecuted. The list included former Prince Andrew, retail billionaire Les Wexner, and Jes Staley, among others. Massie alleged that the government continues to withhold more than 3 million related records despite previous transparency legislation.

The new legislation would allow state officials and members of Congress to challenge the Department of Justice in court regarding the withholding or redaction of materials. Massie argued that the current administration has failed to enforce existing transparency laws, noting that the discharge petition requires 218 signatures to force a vote on the House floor.
