Pete Hegseth faces impeachment resolution over Iran war conduct FAST-MOVING
Republican Representative Thomas Massie has introduced a privileged resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The resolution contains eight articles of impeachment, alleging that Hegseth committed “high crimes and misdemeanors” through his management of the ongoing conflict with Iran and other actions.
Key allegations include violating the War Powers Resolution of 1973 by waging war in Iran for over 90 days without congressional authorization, ignoring directives to end military involvement, and failing to minimize civilian casualties. The articles also cite Hegseth’s role in the operation to capture Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and allege he used his authority to retaliate against critics of the Trump administration.
The Pentagon has issued a strong defense of the Secretary. Press secretary Kingsley Wilson stated that the Department of War is “unified behind the Secretary’s vision” and described Hegseth as a “transformative leader” who has improved morale and slashed bureaucracy.
Separately, the House recently passed a war powers resolution in a 220-204 vote, with seven Republicans joining Democrats to demand an end to hostilities with Iran. This conflict has reportedly cost over $38 billion to date.
