Thomas Meunier expresses desire for elite clubs over Sunderland move

Belgian defender Thomas Meunier has revealed that he would have preferred to join elite clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid, or Bayern Munich if he had the opportunity. The 34-year-old recently joined Sunderland on a free transfer following the conclusion of his contract with Lille.

Meunier noted that players do not always have the final say in their destinations. He credited Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris for making the move convincing, citing an impressive hour-long conversation about football as a deciding factor.

Additionally, Meunier disclosed that a potential move to Manchester United previously fell through during his time at Borussia Dortmund due to requirements from the coach at that time. Despite his professional career, Meunier expressed a deep personal connection to Manchester United, noting that he often attends their matches as a fan.
