Thomas Müller warns of crisis in German football

Former Bayern Munich striker Thomas Müller has expressed concerns regarding a crisis within German football. Speaking on the podcast ‘The Late Run’, the 37-year-old Vancouver Whitecaps player noted that the nation is struggling to produce a new generation of talent that captivates the global audience.

Müller emphasized that the issue extends beyond playing style to include identity and mentality. He suggested that the famous ‘German mentality’—characterized by fighting until the end and being a difficult opponent—has been lost. He described the current style of play as sometimes being ‘too beautiful’ but lacking effectiveness and clinical finishing.

Regarding the national team, Müller highlighted the importance of the squad finding chemistry. He noted that while Germany possesses good players, they lack individuals capable of performing magic single-handedly. He expressed hope that coach Jurgen Klopp can provide the clarity and ideas necessary to build a strong, cohesive team based on simple, reliable behaviors.
