Thomas Partey joins Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia
Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey has officially joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab on a one-year contract. The 33-year-old joins as a free agent following the conclusion of his tenure with Spanish side Villarreal.
This move marks the first time in Partey’s 13-year professional career that he will play outside of Europe. His previous experience includes significant spells at Atlético Madrid, Arsenal, and Villarreal. Al-Shabab confirmed the signing via social media, describing him as a “legend” and a “world star” intended to provide leadership and technical quality to their midfield.
Partey has already made his debut for the Riyadh-based club, appearing as a substitute in a 1-1 draw against Al Khaleej. Beyond his club career, Partey is a key figure for the Ghana national team, serving as deputy captain. His move to the Saudi Pro League comes amid ongoing legal proceedings in the United Kingdom, where he faces charges related to sexual assault, which he denies.
