Thomas Sugiarto Oentoro appointed President Director of Garuda Indonesia

PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has appointed Thomas Sugiarto Oentoro as its new President Director. The decision was finalized during an Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders held on Thursday, October 8, 2026.

Oentoro succeeds Glenny H. Kairupan, who will transition to the role of President Commissioner, replacing Fadjar Prasetyo. Oentoro is a returning figure to the airline, having previously served as an independent commissioner from 2023 to 2024 and most recently as Vice President Director since October 2025.

His professional background includes serving as Chief Risk Officer for the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA) between 2024 and 2025, as well as leadership roles at OCBC and KV Asia Capital. The management stated that this leadership change aims to strengthen the momentum of the airline’s performance recovery, following growth in revenue and a reduction in losses.

In the first half of 2026, the Garuda Indonesia Group reported a 16% increase in revenue to USD 1.80 billion compared to the previous year, while net losses decreased by 23.2% to USD 113 million.
