Thomas the Tank Engine World Exhibition to open in Saitama

The SKIP City Visual Plaza Video Museum in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture, will host the ‘Thomas the Tank Engine World Exhibition’ from October 6 to December 13, 2026. The event celebrates the 80th anniversary of the original publication of the series.

Exhibits will include rare materials such as original manuscripts and sketches by Reverend Awdry, as well as the first-ever public display in Japan of original illustrations from volumes 27, 28, and 35 of the ‘The Railway Series’. Visitors can also view animation production models, concept art, and a Sodor Island diorama. The exhibition features interactive elements, including projection mapping and a play zone.

Actor Rihito Itagaki has been appointed as a support ambassador for the exhibition. His involvement includes specially drawn illustrations of ‘Lady’ and ‘Thomas’ on display, as well as audio guides. The exhibition is produced by Digital SKIP Station with planning by Toei and cooperation from Mattel International, Sony Creative Products, Poplar Publishing, and the Model Railway Museum.
