Thomas Tuchel slams VAR and officials after England's 3-2 win over Mexico

England defeated Mexico 3-2 in the World Cup round of 16, advancing to the quarter‑finals. Coach Thomas Tuchel publicly criticized the match officials, naming Australian referee Alireza Faghani and Moroccan fourth‑official Jalal Jayed, and singled out the VAR team, which consisted entirely of South American officials – Colombian assistant Nicolas Gallo and Chilean and Venezuelan assistants Juan Lara and Juan Soto. Tuchel argued that the VAR wrongly awarded a penalty to Mexico and that the red card issued to Quansah after a VAR review was unjustified.

In a later press conference Tuchel mocked FIFA president Gianni Infantino, joked that Harry Kane might have to call former U.S. President Donald Trump over the decision, and questioned the consistency of disciplinary rulings after the match.
