Thomas Walkap joins Dubai BC following Olympiacos contract dispute

Thomas Walkap Olympiacos Dubai BC EuroLeague Basketball Arbitral Tribunal

The departure of American guard Thomas Walkap from Olympiacos to Dubai BC has concluded following a summer-long dispute. Walkap's agent, David Carraro, stated that the player decided to leave because Olympiacos failed to offer improved contract terms or long-term stability.

Carraro revealed that the dispute escalated to the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT) of FIBA, though the legal action was withdrawn once a settlement was reached. Walkap exercised his right to unilaterally terminate his contract, with the understanding that compensation would be required.

Olympiacos sports director Christos Bafes acknowledged that while Walkap made mistakes in handling the situation, the club maintains respect for his significant contributions to their recent successes. Dubai BC, led by owner Abdullah Saeed Al Naboodah and GM Dejan Kamenijevic, secured the player on a three-year deal, reportedly offering a package exceeding 2,000,000 euros.
