Thomas Walkup contract dispute triggers EuroLeague regulation review

A contractual dispute has emerged between Olympiacos BC and point guard Thomas Walkup, involving interest from Dubai BC. The conflict centers on the EuroLeague Framework Agreement, which governs negotiations with players under active contracts.

According to the regulations in effect since July 1, 2024, teams and agents are prohibited from negotiating with a player under contract unless prior permission is granted by the current club. This restriction also applies to the players themselves. An exception exists only during the final 60 days of a contract. Olympiacos maintains that Walkup is committed to the club until the summer of 2027, meaning the current window does not qualify for this exception.

EuroLeague Properties holds the authority to oversee these negotiations and may impose sanctions or provisional measures on both clubs and players if violations are confirmed. The situation follows reports of a proposal made to the 33-year-old player by Dubai BC.
