Thomas Weikert to step down as DOSB president amid leadership disputes

Thomas Weikert has announced he will not seek re-election as president of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) in the upcoming vote on December 5. Weikert, who has held the position since December 2021, cited the heavy burden of the role alongside his legal career as the reason for his decision.

The leadership transition has triggered internal friction. A search commission proposed Michael Mronz, a member of the International Olympic Committee, as a candidate to succeed Weikert. However, several major sports associations, including representatives from winter sports, have expressed resistance to the commission's proposal and are demanding more influence in the selection process.

In addition to the presidential race, the commission has suggested new members for the DOSB presidency, including Fritz Joussen and Florian Sperl, as part of an effort to refresh the organization's leadership.
