Thompson concert in Frankfurt sparks political controversy

Croatian singer Marko Perković Thompson has sold out his upcoming concert at Frankfurt’s Jahrhunderthalle, scheduled for November 13, within just two hours. The event, which has a capacity of approximately 4,000, has drawn significant attention due to political opposition in Germany.

Members of the Die Linke party, including Frankfurt city councilor Benjamin Aličić, have called for the concert to be canceled. They argue that Thompson uses nationalist and fascist symbolism, specifically citing his song ‘Bojna Čavoglave’ and the use of the greeting ‘Za dom spremni,’ which is associated with the WWII-era Ustaše regime. Aličić stated, “You cannot do business with fascism.”

Despite these calls, the management of the Jahrhunderthalle, which is a privately operated venue, has stated they see no current reason to cancel the performance. They noted that they monitor all events to ensure content complies with German law and does not pose a threat to public safety or order, but currently have no information suggesting a violation.
