Thompson Egbo-Egbo releases jazz album Just A Thought

Toronto-based pianist and composer Thompson Egbo-Egbo has released his new album, Just A Thought. Recorded with his longtime trio consisting of bassist Randall Hall and drummer Jeff Halischuk, the record is characterized by a cinematic and lyrical sound.

The album features a diverse range of musical influences, including post-bop, nuevo tango, and R&B-inflected jazz. The program includes original compositions by Egbo-Egbo alongside reworkings of pieces by artists such as Paul Simon, Kenny Garrett, Bud Powell, Robert Glasper, and Astor Piazzolla. On several tracks, the trio is joined by the Odin Quartet, adding orchestral depth to the arrangements.

Egbo-Egbo, who was born in Nigeria and raised in Canada, studied at Humber College and Berklee College of Music. His work often blends accessible melodies with sophisticated arrangements, drawing inspiration from various genres including contemporary classical and alternative music.
