Thomson Broadcast seeks $450 million Nigerian media modernization deal
Thomson Broadcast, a French broadcasting technology company controlled by Ylias Akbaraly’s Redland Group, is pursuing a proposed $450 million (approximately €400 million) contract to modernize Nigeria’s media infrastructure.
The project aims to transform the technical capabilities of several Nigerian public entities, including the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Voice of Nigeria (VON), and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
While a preliminary memorandum of understanding was signed in 2025, the deal remains at the proposal stage. No official documents have confirmed the final signature, budget, or financial commitment from the Nigerian government. Thomson Broadcast CEO Stéphane Bollon has reportedly held discussions with Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, regarding the project. If finalized, the investment would represent roughly 0.15% of Nigeria’s 2025 GDP.
