Thor offshore wind farm begins turbine installation in Denmark
The Thor offshore wind farm, located 22 kilometers off the coast of Jutland, Denmark, is progressing toward full operations by 2027. Once completed, it will be Denmark’s largest wind farm, consisting of 72 turbines rated at up to 15 megawatts each. The project is expected to supply enough electricity to power more than one million Danish households.
In a significant move for industrial sustainability, the project is utilizing low-carbon technology to address the environmental impact of steel production. Thirty-six of the 72 turbines will feature specialized towers designed to reduce the embodied carbon of the farm’s steel backbone by nearly two-thirds. The project is co-owned by RWE and Norges Bank Investment Management, with RWE utilizing Siemens Gamesa technology to implement these advancements.
