Thousands of Mexican students left without university places as UADY and UQRoo admissions oversubscribed

The Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY) reported that 15,900 applicants will sit for its Exani II admission exam, but the university can only enrol 5,500 students. Consequently, about 10,400 hopefuls will be denied admission, with the Medicine programme attracting nearly 4,800 candidates for just 238 slots. The rector, Carlos Estrada Pinto, noted persistent excess demand for medical studies and announced new degree offerings, including Veterinary and Zootecnia programs at the Tizimín campus and upcoming bachelor's and master's programmes in fields such as Artificial Intelligence and English language teaching.

In Quintana Roo, the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Quintana Roo (UQRoo) saw 2,813 candidates take the CENEVAL EXANI II test across its five campuses for the autumn‑2026 semester. Results are scheduled for 10 July (with mixed‑mode results on 17 July) and classes will begin in late August or early September. The university highlighted expanded curricula, such as the addition of Criminalistics to the Public Safety degree and a cybersecurity focus within the Network Engineering programme.
