Threatening letters targeting US officials claim DSA affiliation

A series of threatening letters containing suspicious substances have been sent to various congressional and Secretary of State offices across the United States. The letters reportedly claim to be from the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and make specific references to an impending ‘civil war’ following the election.

Recipients include Senators Pete Ricketts, Mike Rounds, and Chris Murphy, as well as Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and Representatives Maxwell Frost, Ritchie Torres, and Hillary Scholten. Representative Scholten reported that her Grand Rapids office received a letter allegedly containing a suspicious substance.

The letters featured a return address at 75 Maiden Lane in New York City, an address previously associated with the DSA. A spokesperson for the organization stated that the DSA has not occupied that location since 2013, though older membership forms have listed the address in the past.
