Three Austrian Men Drown During Stand‑Up Paddle Trip on Marchfeld Canal
Three Austrian men, aged 27, 28 and 29, were found dead in the Marchfeld Canal near Gerasdorf, Lower Austria. The trio had been out on stand‑up paddleboards and are believed to have drowned while trying to navigate a weir. Their disappearance was reported on Wednesday after the mother of the 27‑year‑old lodged a missing‑person notice in Vienna. Police and rescue teams recovered the bodies the following day, using divers, dogs, a drone and a helicopter. The identity of the third victim, a 29‑year‑old Austrian citizen, was confirmed on Friday. Prosecutors have ordered autopsies, but preliminary statements say there is no evidence of foul play and the incident is being treated as an accident.
