Three Bangladeshi migrants intercepted after swimming across the Prut River

On 20 June, Romanian border police discovered three Bangladeshi citizens, aged 31 to 40, after they swam across the Prut River from the Republic of Moldova in an attempt to enter the European Union illegally. The migrants were found concealed in a wheat field near the village of Vetrișoaia in Vaslui County. Romanian officers deployed an intervention team, a service dog and a drone to locate the suspects. One of the men required medical attention and was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

After identification, the three men were handed over to Moldovan border authorities under the bilateral Readmission Agreement. They stated they intended to travel to Bucharest in search of employment. Romanian officials continue investigations into the illegal border crossing.
