Three children poisoned by rat poison in chocolate milk, Tlajomulco, Jalisco

Three siblings aged 3, 7 and 9 in the San Sebastián El Grande neighborhood of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Jalisco, accidentally mixed a pink powder of rodenticide into chocolate milk and ingested it. The children showed severe symptoms shortly after and were attended by paramedics, police and fire responders. They were stabilized and transferred to an Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) clinic, where they remain under medical observation.

The mother reported that she was unaware of the poison being stored in the pantry and said the incident was accidental. State prosecutors, the Ministry of Public and child‑protection agencies have opened an investigation to determine any legal responsibility and to assess how the toxic substance was kept within the home. Authorities are also reviewing safety guidelines for the storage of hazardous chemicals in residences.
