Three Colombian nationals drown in El Salvador's Costa del Sol
Three Colombian citizens died after being swept away by strong rip currents at Costa del Sol beach in the San Luis La Herradura district of La Paz, El Salvador.
The victims have been identified as Mariano García López, Gloria Aleyda Meza Rico (57), and Yilbey Montoya Sánchez (50). According to witnesses, the incident began when a rip current pulled a woman out to sea; García López entered the water in an attempt to rescue her, but was also swept away by the waves.
Search and recovery operations involving Comandos de Salvamento, Protección Civil, the National Navy, and the National Civil Police concluded on Tuesday with the recovery of García López's body. The incident occurred during a period of spring tides, with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) previously warning of increased wave heights exceeding three meters and dangerous return currents.
