Three construction workers killed in Blythe freeway collision

Three construction workers were killed and one person was seriously injured following a multi-vehicle collision on the eastbound Interstate 10 freeway in Blythe on Friday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred near Intake Boulevard. A preliminary investigation suggests a big rig traveling eastbound struck a parked attenuator construction vehicle and an unoccupied Chevrolet Silverado before colliding with a water truck. During the sequence of events, three construction workers were struck and killed.

The driver of the big rig, a 44-year-old man from Redlands, sustained severe head and leg injuries and was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs. Authorities stated that alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and the eastbound lanes were temporarily closed for cleanup and investigation.
