Three teens killed in fatal I-395 police chase involving stolen car
A high-speed police pursuit in Alexandria, Virginia, ended in a fatal crash on Interstate 395 that killed three teenagers and left a fourth critically injured. The incident began around 12:45 a.m. Monday when an automated license plate reader flagged a Hyundai that had been reported stolen from Prince George’s County, Maryland, two days earlier.
Virginia State Police attempted to stop the vehicle near Stevenson Road and South Walker Street, but the driver fled, reaching speeds of approximately 90 mph. The pursuit lasted about two minutes and covered roughly five miles before the driver lost control on the Shirlington Road exit ramp and struck a Jersey wall.
Authorities identified the victims as three male teenagers, ages 16 and 17, and one 16-year-old female from Alexandria. The 16-year-old driver, who was unlicensed, died at a local hospital. The other two male passengers, both 16 from Silver Spring, Maryland, also died at the hospital, while a 17-year-old passenger died at the scene. Police noted that none of the occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the impact.
