Three dead in Rialma, Goiás after car collides with road workers on BR‑153
On Sunday, 24 May 2026, a vehicle travelling on the BR‑153 near kilometre 293 in Rialma, central Goiás, left the carriageway and struck two men working on the roadside. The men, aged 46 and 35, were part of a contracted crew removing a pole for the highway concessionaire. The car, driven by a 45‑year‑old man, then hit the pole and continued forward. All three occupants were found dead at the scene despite rescue efforts.
The Federal Highway Police (PRF) sealed the site and began a technical investigation to determine why the driver lost control. The concessionaire, Ecovias Araguaia, released a statement expressing condolences and confirming it is monitoring the inquiry. The incident contributed to a weekend tally of 19 accidents on Goiás federal roads, resulting in 19 injuries and three fatalities overall.
