Three drownings at Kuşadası’s Sevgi Beach despite red‑flag warning
Three people died after swimming at Sevgi Beach in Kuşadası, Aydın Province, Turkey, despite a red flag warning for strong currents and high waves. Local authorities had hoisted the flag and warned swimmers not to enter.
Rescue teams from police, health services and the Coast Guard pulled 12 people from the water; two were rescued after near‑drowning. The three victims – Dursun Marmara, 79; Mahmut Oz, 67, a retired physical‑education teacher; and İlkay Ozcan, 54 – could not be saved.
Mahmut Oz’s funeral was held in his hometown of Yenipazar, with burial at Yenipazar Asri Cemetery; the other victims were taken to Istanbul and Amasya respectively.
