Five arrested for metal theft at Caxias do Sul historic railway station

The Municipal Guard of Caxias do Sul detained five men during the early hours of Monday after real‑time monitoring by the Integrated Operations Center (CIOp) identified three separate attempts to steal metal from the city's historic railway station. The first incident, around 00:30, involved two men removing a copper piece and a iron clamp from a locomotive. A second pair was caught at 02:00 damaging the train to extract metal bars, and a lone suspect was intercepted at 05:30 with about eight metres of copper cable, an pliers and two knives. All five suspects, aged 26‑35, were taken to the police station; four are residents of Caxias do Sul and one is from Uruguaiana. The operation recovered the stolen materials and highlighted the guard's reliance on video surveillance to protect public heritage.

Police noted the men have prior records for offenses such as theft, drug trafficking and assault. The recovered items were seized as evidence, and the investigation continues to determine any broader criminal network behind the repeated depredations.
