Three French tourists murdered near Pretoria; two suspects arrested in Luxembourg
Three French adults traveling in South Africa were found dead in two separate locations near Pretoria on 11 July. The victims had suffered multiple violent blows with a blunt weapon.
French prosecutor Gauthier Poupeau identified a 44‑year‑old man, the ex‑husband of one victim, as the primary suspect and a 71‑year‑old man, the father of the child, as an accomplice. Both suspects were located and detained by Luxembourg police on 22 July under a European arrest warrant.
The child’s mother and a minor daughter who were travelling with the suspects were placed in safety; the daughter was repatriated to France on the day of the arrests. The investigation is being coordinated by French authorities (OCVP and OMPJ) together with South African law‑enforcement agencies.
