Three Greek musicians receive full Berklee College of Music scholarships

Three young musicians specializing in Greek traditional music have received full scholarships to the Berklee College of Music in Boston for their four-year undergraduate programs. This is a rare distinction, as the institution awards only approximately 15 to 16 full scholarships annually.

The recipients include Stefanos Paterakis, a 20-year-old laouto player from Kissamos, Crete, who has studied the instrument since age eight. Aimilia Chalkia, 26, from Thessaloniki, focuses on traditional folk singing after studying at the University of Macedonia. Anna Maria Sinopidou, 21, from Katerini, specializes in the kaval, a traditional wooden flute, with the goal of encouraging more youth to learn the historic instrument.
