Romania reports multiple fatal accidents and a firefighter death
Romania has experienced several significant road accidents and a fatal incident involving emergency services. In Pecineaga, Constanța, a 25-year-old driver was detained for 24 hours after a high-speed pursuit. The driver, who tested positive for 1.04 mg/l of alcohol, failed to stop for police, leading to a crash where both his vehicle and the police cruiser overturned and caught fire. Two police officers were injured in the incident.
In Prahova, a truck overturned on the DN1 Ploiești-Brașov highway near Păulești after a tire exploded, causing traffic disruptions and striking a passenger car. Additionally, a 44-year-old firefighter was found dead from a gunshot wound while on duty at an IGSU unit in Mizil; a military prosecutor is investigating the circumstances.
Other notable accidents include a multi-vehicle collision in Mediaș involving a bus that required a ‘Red Plan’ emergency response, and a head-on collision on DN 6 near Jupa that resulted in five people being hospitalized. In Suceava, a collision between a car and a cyclist left two young people injured.
