Batman cemetery shooting kills AKP official, son and nephew
On 26 July 2026 a gun attack took place at Asri Cemetery in the Çamlıca/Güneykent area of Batman, Turkey, killing three members of the same family.
The victims were identified as AK Party local official Mehmet Direk, his son Ercan Direk and nephew Bekir Direk. Two other people were wounded – a 50‑year‑old identified as A.G. (in critical condition) and a 22‑year‑old M.E.
Police detained two suspects and opened a broad investigation. Officials said the assault appears to be a continuation of a feud that began on 16 May 2026, linked to a prior “girl‑matter” incident. The inquiry is coordinated by the Cumhuriyet Başsavcılığı and the Batman Valiliği.
AK Party deputy Ferhat Nasıroğlu posted a condolence message on social media. The Batman Valiliği confirmed the arrests and said the legal process is ongoing.
