Three killed in Monterey County head-on collision

Three people were killed in a head-on collision on Abbott Street in Monterey County, California, on Sunday night. The crash occurred around 9:00 p.m. when a white Honda CR-V crossed into the southbound lane, striking a black Nissan Altima.

The victims have been identified by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office coroner as 19-year-old Abigail Tinoco, a pre-law student at UCLA; 18-year-old Sebastian Burgos, a biology major at UC Santa Cruz; and 18-year-old Noah Trevino.

Six people were involved in the accident, with three occupants in each vehicle. Three survivors, including the drivers of both vehicles and one passenger, were transported to Natividad Medical Center with major injuries. The California Highway Patrol confirmed that neither driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision, though investigators have not yet determined if speed was a factor.
