Three killed in Myrtle Point crash during police pursuit

Three people, including a 4-month-old infant, were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 42 in Myrtle Point, Oregon, on September 19. The crash occurred after 69-year-old Gregory Paul Olson allegedly fled from a Myrtle Point Police Department officer in a silver Land Rover LR3. According to Oregon State Police, Olson was attempting to evade contact following an alleged shoplifting incident.

Olson reportedly traveled eastbound at a high rate of speed before losing control of his vehicle, crossing the center line, and striking a westbound Subaru Forester. The Subaru, which was towing a jet ski, was operated by 32-year-old James Edward Price, who died at the scene. A passenger in the Subaru, 20-year-old Genevieve Marie Huffaker, later died at a hospital. The 4-month-old female infant in the Subaru also passed away at a Portland-area hospital.

Olson sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized. The Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is assisting in the ongoing investigation.
