Three killed, including toddler, in head‑on crash on Brazil’s BR‑376

A prohibited overtaking maneuver on the BR‑376 highway near Guairaçá in the state of Paraná caused a head‑on collision on the night of 4 June 2026. The crash involved two vehicles traveling in opposite directions at kilometre 68. The driver of the first car, a 51‑year‑old man, died at the scene. In the second vehicle, a 52‑year‑old driver and his three‑year‑old child were also killed instantly. Two other occupants, including the child’s mother, sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.

Police from the Federal Highway Patrol (PRF) reported that the overtaking attempt occurred in a continuous double‑lane section where passing is prohibited. The vehicle carrying the child was equipped with a child‑safety seat. The accident forced the closure of the highway in both directions while forensic and clearance teams worked on the site.
