Brazilian Air Force forces landing of Bolivian plane in Mato Grosso

On 31 July 2026 the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) intercepted a small aircraft that entered Brazil’s airspace from Bolivia without a flight plan, without contacting air‑traffic control and without any identifiable registration. Two FAB A‑29 Super Tucano fighters attempted to establish communication and, after the aircraft ignored orders, employed the Tiro de Detenção (detention shot) to compel a landing. The plane made a forced landing about 200 km north of Campo Grande, in a rural area of Mato Grosso do Sul. Police and military units arrived to find the aircraft abandoned; the occupants had fled into the surrounding vegetation and were not captured. No cargo or illicit material was confirmed on board, and the incident remains under investigation by Brazilian authorities as a possible illegal‑flight or smuggling case.
