Three men die in Onitsha electrocution accident

Three men—Chukwudi Ukwa, Frank Okafor, and Somadina Nwabuike—were electrocuted to death in Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra State, on Monday. The incident occurred at a two-storey building on Old Port Harcourt Road while workers were attempting to erect an iron pole for a water tank.

The pole reportedly fell onto an 11-kilovolt overhead electricity line, causing the fatal accident. Police officers from the Fegge Division evacuated the bodies to the General Hospital, Onitsha. The building owner is currently assisting police investigators in determining the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited issued a statement warning property owners, contractors, and artisans about the dangers of construction work near live electricity infrastructure. The company emphasized that metal objects can conduct electricity and cause fatal injuries even if workers do not make direct contact with the wires.
