Three smuggling suspects arrested after migrant arrivals in Crotone, Italy

Italian police and the Guardia di Finanza detained three alleged human‑smuggling operators in Crotone following two recent migrant landings. On 1 June 2026, 29 migrants arrived at the Crotone port, and on 4 June 2026 a second group of 57 migrants disembarked. The migrants received medical assistance and were transferred to the Regional Hub on Isola Capo Rizzuto for identification.

Investigators from the Crotone police mobile squad and maritime finance unit, coordinated by the local public prosecutor, used migrant testimonies and forensic analysis of seized mobile phones to identify the three suspects, described as a Sudanese, an Egyptian and a Syrian national who had piloted the vessels from Libya and Turkey. The three men were placed in custody at the Crotone prison pending judicial review, and the inquiry continues to uncover higher‑level members of the trafficking network.
