Three typhoons active in Northwest Pacific as Baihaiqun hits China

The Northwest Pacific is experiencing a rare phenomenon with three typhoons active simultaneously: Peilou, Baihaiqun, and Changhong.

Typhoon Peilou (the 16th typhoon of the year) recently formed northwest of Guam. It is expected to move eastward toward the open ocean, posing no direct threat to Taiwan or mainland China.

Typhoon Baihaiqun (the 13th typhoon) has already made landfall in Taizhou, Zhejiang province. In Hangzhou, meteorologists issued a red typhoon warning for the first time in 14 years, leading to the cancellation of 388 flights at Hangzhou Airport. While it passed near northern Taiwan, it is expected to weaken after making landfall in China.

Typhoon Changhong (the 15th typhoon) is currently located in the eastern waters near Japan. The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts it may make landfall in the Tohoku or Kanto regions around August 11, potentially crossing Honshu from east to west before moving toward the Korean Peninsula. Travelers to regions such as Sendai, Miyagi, Iwate, and Fukushima are advised to monitor local transportation information.
