Three US states conduct simultaneous executions

On Thursday, August 13, three U.S. states—Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Alabama—carried out executions on the same day, marking the first time such a triple execution event has occurred since 2010.

In Oklahoma, Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez was executed via lethal injection for the 2003 murder of his common-law wife. In Tennessee, 66-year-old Anthony Hines was executed for the 1985 murder of Catherine Jean Jenkins. Before his death, Hines reportedly requested to send a message to his son. In Alabama, Jeremy Williams was executed for the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl.

Experts from the Death Penalty Information Center noted that while the event is unusual, the simultaneous executions were likely a result of coincidental scheduling rather than a coordinated effort. The occurrence highlights a trend where a small number of states continue to actively utilize capital punishment.
