Three wanted Maoist militants surrender in West Bengal

Three high-profile Maoist militants, active for approximately two decades, have surrendered to police in West Bengal. The group includes Ramprasad Mardi (also known as Sachin), who carried a reward of 1.5 million rupees, his wife Meeta (also known as Nayantara), who carried a 1 million rupee reward, and female cadre Bulu (also known as Gauri).

Upon surrendering, the individuals handed over several weapons, including an AK-47. While West Bengal police have not yet made an official announcement, high-ranking sources from the Jharkhand police have confirmed the surrender.

Ramprasad Mardi, a member of the CPI (Maoist) Regional Committee, faces 44 criminal cases in Jharkhand. He is a primary suspect in several serious incidents, including the murder of former Jamshedpur MP Sunil Mahto and attacks on the Eastern Frontier Rifles camp in Midnapore. The surrender follows intensified operations by central and local security forces in the forests along the Jharkhand-West Bengal border, which had placed significant pressure on Maoist cadres due to a lack of logistics and safe havens.
