Thriasio Hospital warns of critical staffing shortages in Burn Center

The Thriasio Hospital Employees' Association has issued an urgent warning regarding critical staffing shortages at the hospital’s specialized Burn Center. The facility, which serves as a primary hub for treating severe burn victims from major fires and industrial accidents, is currently operating with personnel levels below minimum safety requirements.

Manolis Vardavakis, president of the hospital's employees' association, stated that critical units are functioning with insufficient staff to ensure safety. The shortage is particularly acute in the High Dependency Unit (HDU), where only 13 nurses and assistants are responsible for 10 beds, as well as eight beds in the Plastic Surgery unit.

The staffing crisis has been highlighted by the recent influx of patients from fires in Salamina and Crete, as well as an explosion at the ALUMAN factory in Oinofyta. The association has sent a formal letter to the Ministry of Health and regional health directorates demanding immediate and safe staffing for the Intensive Care Units (ICU) and HDU.
