Chamba bus accident kills 7 and injures 11 in Himachal Pradesh

A private bus crashed near Chalunj Mor on the Bairagarh-Tissa road in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday morning. The accident occurred around 7:15 am as the vehicle was traveling from Bairagarh to Chamba. The bus reportedly skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge approximately 100 feet deep, landing on a road below.

At least seven people died in the incident, including the driver and the conductor. Eleven passengers sustained injuries, with several reported to be in serious condition; some have been referred to Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College in Chamba for specialized treatment. Rescue operations were conducted by a multi-agency team including the NDRF, local police, Home Guards, Fire Services, and the Revenue Department.

Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed their condolences to the victims' families. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also directed authorities to ensure proper medical care for the injured. Local authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, though the region is currently facing challenging conditions due to heavy monsoon rainfall.
