Thrissur Medical College Hospital fire in under-construction wing

A fire erupted on Tuesday in a newly built structure that will house the Mother and Child Care Ward at the Government Medical College Hospital in Thrissur, Kerala. The building was still under construction and vacant, so no patients, staff or other people were inside. Fire and Rescue teams from Thrissur and Wadakkanchery arrived quickly, contained the blaze and extinguished it fully. A police officer said, “The fire has been completely extinguished, and the situation is under control. There were no casualties.”

Preliminary investigations indicate the fire started on the top floor, likely due to a short circuit in an air‑conditioning unit that ignited nearby wiring and insulation. Authorities are conducting a detailed inquiry to confirm the exact cause and assess the damage to the facility.
