Thuisbezorgd and Uber Eats to clarify mandatory delivery fees

Food delivery services Thuisbezorgd.nl and Uber Eats have agreed to change how they display mandatory extra costs following discussions with the Dutch consumer organization Consumentenbond.

An investigation by the Consumentenbond revealed that service fees, small order surcharges, and packaging costs were often only shown at the end of the ordering process. Researchers noted that consumers frequently encountered between 2 and 4 euros in hidden costs. Additionally, the group found that Thuisbezorgd had advertised significant discounts while prices were simultaneously increasing.

In response, both platforms have updated their apps to make the display of additional costs clearer. To compensate for these practices, both companies announced they will provide discount vouchers to millions of customers, though the specific details of these vouchers have not yet been released.
