Thuisbezorgd halts Dutch deliveries as heatwave raises safety concerns
Thuisbezorgd.nl suspended its own delivery operations on Wednesday afternoon across most of the Netherlands after the KNMI issued an orange heat warning with temperatures above 35 °C. The pause applies to the company’s fleet of couriers; deliveries in Groningen and Leeuwarden continue, and restaurants that employ their own couriers may still operate. Customers can still place orders for pickup or from restaurants that deliver themselves.
Just Eat Takeaway.com said the decision protects its workers, who will be paid for the days off. The company will resume services once the orange heat alert is lifted. In Belgium, deliveries are set to restart on Sunday as temperatures are expected to drop to around 27 °C.
The company advises couriers to stay hydrated, wear protective clothing and sunscreen, and to adjust work as needed while the extreme heat persists.
