Thuiswinkel.org and bol partner on e-commerce sustainability labeling

Thuiswinkel.org and the e-commerce platform bol have collaborated to develop a manual for sustainability filters to assist webshops in providing transparent and legally compliant product information. This initiative aims to help consumers make informed decisions, as nearly half of online shoppers consider sustainability when making purchases.

The development of this guide was conducted in consultation with the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). The move anticipates stricter European regulations regarding sustainability claims and characteristics, which are set to take effect on September 27, 2026. These rules will impose higher standards on how environmental information is presented and substantiated.

As part of this rollout, bol has already implemented new features allowing customers to filter products based on relevant sustainability characteristics. The manual serves as a step-by-step guide for other e-commerce businesses to implement similar data layers for their product assortments.
