Thula Solutions launches electric 4x4 for wildlife safaris

South African startup Thula Solutions has launched the Thula ESV, a purpose-built electric 4x4 designed specifically for wildlife safaris. Debuting in contexts such as the Kruger National Park, the vehicle aims to provide a more immersive experience by eliminating the noise and vibrations associated with traditional diesel engines.

The Thula ESV features a 225 kW electric motor powered by a 65-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. While it has a range of approximately 200 km, the company states this is sufficient for up to three days of safari operations. The vehicle is engineered for heavy-duty use, featuring an ultra-rigid steel structure and long-travel four-wheel independent suspension to handle difficult off-road terrain.

Beyond environmental benefits, the vehicle's silent and vibration-free operation is intended to improve wildlife photography and allow tourists to hear the sounds of the savanna more clearly. Production is being scaled in South Africa with support from the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), with a target of producing fifty units per month.
