Thun authorities warn of fraudulent QR codes on parking pillars

The city of Thun has issued a warning following the discovery of counterfeit QR code stickers on several public parking pillars. Criminals are using these manipulated stickers to redirect drivers to fraudulent payment websites designed to steal credit card information.

In response, the city is conducting inspections to identify and remove the tampered pillars. Authorities advise motorists to carefully inspect parking pillars for suspicious stickers or overlaid codes before making payments. To ensure security, officials recommend using only official apps for parking fees and to immediately abort any transaction if a QR code leads to an unknown website or requests unexpected credit card details.

Citizens who encounter suspicious QR codes are urged to report the exact location to the Bern Cantonal Police or the Thun City Police Inspectorate.
