Thuringia secures rail funding and eases business subsidies

Thuringia is moving forward with major infrastructure and economic development initiatives. Christian Hirte, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport, confirmed that the financial commitment for the expansion and electrification of the Mitte-Deutschland-Verbindung (MDV) railway line remains intact despite leadership changes within the ministry. The project, which connects Weimar, Jena, Gera, and Gößnitz, requires investments in the hundreds of millions of euros and is expected to see progress starting in 2027.

Simultaneously, Thuringia is easing the requirements for state investment subsidies to stimulate the regional economy. Economic Minister Colette Boos-John announced that the rules for accessing the annual 60 to 70 million euro fund will be relaxed to encourage medium-sized enterprises to undertake expansion or modernization projects. Key changes include lowering the required job growth threshold from ten percent to five percent for companies seeking funding, aiming to bolster competitiveness amidst global economic uncertainty.
