Thuringian theater scene highlights seasonal programs and award winners

The Thuringian theater landscape is seeing significant activity through both seasonal programming and prestigious awards. Theater Erfurt has announced a diverse winter schedule, featuring family productions like ‘Pinocchio’ and ‘Hansel and Gretel,’ alongside classical works such as Tchaikovsky’s ‘Eugene Onegin’ and Strauss’s ‘Die Fledermaus.’ The venue will also host a New Year’s concert titled ‘Budapest – Vienna – Berlin: The Silver Operetta Express’ in early 2027.

In Jena, the Thuringian Theater Prize has been awarded to six productions from Erfurt, Jena, Weimar, Meiningen, and Obermaßfeld-Grimmethal. Each winning production receives 1,000 euros and an invitation to the upcoming Avant Art Festival. Notable winners include Tanztheater Erfurt for its choreography by Ester Ambrosino, and the Stellwerk-Theater Weimar for ‘Ausradiert,’ a production exploring Nazi eugenics crimes in Thuringia.
