Thusis fire destroys restaurant and apartments, leaving five missing

A major fire has destroyed a multi-story building housing the Beverin restaurant and residential apartments in Thusis, Switzerland. The blaze, which broke out shortly after midnight, reportedly originated on the second floor of the structure.

Emergency responders faced significant challenges as the building's staircase collapsed during the fire. To access the interior, firefighters had to use a crane to open the roof. Approximately 100 firefighters were deployed to combat the flames.

Fourteen people managed to evacuate the building. Of those, eight were injured, including two in serious condition, two with moderate injuries, and four with minor injuries. The injured were transported to hospitals in Chur, Thusis, Ilanz, and Zurich. Authorities report that five people remain missing, and search operations are ongoing.

The Graubünden Cantonal Police and the public prosecutor's office have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
